any tips on how to maintain a solid healthy diet? i need to lose 100lbs, and im doing this for health and personal reason but...i dont want to get sucked in to just eating a lot of pasta or rice and carb loading...that will not help me lose weight. I also dont want to deprive myself of solid protein sources to maintain myself. I havent been eating a lot of meat in general so this wont be overly hard, seeing as i eat lots of tofu, beans, veggies....but..any one whos been doing this for a long while with good tips...help.

thnks

rice and lentils together is a complete protein
quinoa is a complete protein
i say eat a lot of whole grains
millet, brown rice, quinoa, barley, etc..
beans have loads of protein (garbanzo, adzuki, black, pinto, navy, etc..)
eat shitloads of veggies (cant go wrong and theres such a variety)
if you like tofu, tempeh and seitain, go for those for protein too
also seeds and nuts
find a local grocer that sells bulk of beans, seeds, nuts and grains
stock up on all that good shit and keep it in mason jars
theres plenty of recipes out there too

My tip would be to go to a book store and flip through some vegetarian cook books. Find one with pictures that has some stuff that looks appetizing to you and buy it. Go home and start experimenting. I like the simple stuff, soups, wraps, curries, pitas, all things that you can throw a bunch of tofu, beans, veggies etc. in and it'll taste good. I don't have any advice on losing weight, other than don't be sedentary and eat semi-healthy.

only carb up with breakfast or before exercise

stick to whole grains/complex carbs/stuff with lots of fiber

potatoes are delicious and probably the most versitile vegetable...so they're really hard to avoid

but avoid them anyways...they're full of carbs...so limit your intake and find substitutes

the whole thing with not wanting to eat much carbs and eating a lot of protein is, i believe, somewhat misguided. we actually dont need all that much protein to function optimally. the bulk of your diet really should be vegetables and whole grains.

what kawlen says about white potatoes is true. they will just quickly turn to sugar in your body. sweet potatoes are good though. not the shit that they label as sweet potatoes but is actually yams but real sweet potatoes. get those purple ones if you can.
