Also, does anyone have any suggestions for political writers?

I've basically read a bunch of Chomsky, Zinn, Hitchens and like Harpers and Atlantic.

I'm interested in learning about US foreign policy and globalization, but I'm open for reading anything really anything interesting.

The books I've got lined up are

The Bottom Billion by Paul Collier
The Shock Doctrine by Naomi Klein
Overthrow by Stephen Kinzer

I've been reading Mike Davis lately - he writes columns regularly for The Nation and the UK Guardian.

I'm also reading a book called "Not for Sale: Decommodifying Public Life," a collection of essays on the decommodification/anti-WTO movements. Edited by Gordon Laxer and Dennis Soron. Very informative book; I've learned more about the insidiousness of the GATS agreements than I've ever known. Scary, disgusting stuff.

Also, (as I'm usually in the habit of reading multiple books at once) I'm reading "Socialism" by Michael Harrington, an overview of the socialist movements in Europe, the U.S., and the Third World. Marx was brilliant.

I realise this is an old thread. I'm new; first post. Hi.

Zombie Capitalism by Chris Harman is a must read for anyone interested in the global financial crisis, its roots, its inevitability, and how we can overcome it.
