try moving the pots to a dark but warm place, sometimes too much light will interrupt the germination, especially if they weren't sown especially deep...and lift your lid a few times a day...they need air...might even just leave them where they are and drape a dark towel over the top so it's not too bright...

i only leave the greenhouses on till they sprout.
i take them outside during the day, and inside at night.
my yard doesnt get too much sun, houses in denver are very close together.

cool, all i'm saying is that seeds don't need light to sprout...for the most part, they prefer darkness...

I planted a bunch of stuff a week or so back, starting off most seeds in-doors, except our tomatoes. It's tough growing a lot of stuff down on the border though, last year most of our plants fried in the summer heat. Going to mulch like crazy this year and put out shade cloths once it starts getting into +100F everyday.

i'm no expert, but i am intrigued by this enthusiasm to produce locally, and i have had some successfull experiences even though i live in a dry place...i'm in the high desert (reno,nv) and it can get extremely sunny and intense, enough to where you can't even look up properly when you're walking down the street...be careful not to water the leaves of the plants, i made that mistake last year, and droplets of water have a way of magnifying the sun to burn all of the vegetative growth...i like to water by flood...make a trough around your plants, so the water floods the entire well, also, water in the morning, and the evening, if it's super hot...

also i live in an apartment complex(doing a pretty standard guerrilla grow) so i let the slumlord flip the water bill, but if you own a home, consider rainwater harvesting to save...

thats a good idea, might have to try the raised bed thing...or stick to pots instead of the ground. The only plants that likes our soil so far are various hot peppers and rosemary.

oh and compost...things like paper, coffee, anything leftover vegetable or fruit...sawdust, charcoal ash(depending on soil acidity) even weeds, if you get a big enough pile to maintain an internal temperature of 145 degrees for 30 days (which should be easy if its a 100 out) you can add the compost to the soil to add nutrients...i guarantee you can have success if you strategize...add some steer manure too...it's like 70 cents a bag...

manure is too acidic for arid environments. composting is the way to go.

if you check with your local cooperative extension (which only exists for land grant universities) they will usually run a soil test to tell you exactly whats going on free of charge...i'm assuming you're in arizona, so here are the links i found if you decide to learn more, they will also be able to suggest crops that are better suited for your climate...the extension link for csu, denver is below it...i work for the extension here so that's how i know...

How coincidental! I ordered seeds just today. I'm going for broccoli, paprika or bell peppar or whatever, carrots and corn.
Last year I grew big ass maize plants right off my balcony. I was late though, never got to harvest any.
This year I'm not sleeping! My parents have a house and a garden so I got their permission to grow all kinds of veggies
out there. I'm stoked! Exiting as hell.

Keep us posted on your garden Tim and everyone else, please.

im going to try getting more variety of seeds from japan. last time, my wife got a healthy indoor herb garden going, i think i failed in not transplanting them outside to a welcoming environment, i think most of em woulda made it... mini eggplants in hydroponics would be incredible.
