This was cool. Being all white like Ali has gotta be kind of tough, and I see how the outcast, the thug, the minority race could respect him for that.

Some of the more self obsessed, or gangsta black folks are totally dicks and they will do some of the dickest social shit imaginable to you, while they're waiting to buy the new Lebron kicks or whatever... This happened to me last time i was in New York, just talking to them like i'm a tourist. It's not just race, most black people I find very nice, even some of the "tough guys." If they knew how much modern gangsta culture is the white man, the fashion the clubbing the "sizzurp" all that shit, they would never want to touch that shit again and feel betrayed by the artists that were "telling them what to do."

na man, i'm not kidding, it's not an accident that the artists who say "sell crack" get played. That shit is so ridiculous, how could anyone get a record deal when their music is about selling crack...

Kind of why i like Lil B, he's an artist that almost makes fun of the "sell crack" and "dehumanize women" shtick.

"if only these dumb coons would educate themselves, then they would agree with me"

btw i love brother alis reaction in that battle to sages line about how hes a fat black dude with vitiligo. just like nods and laughs "yeah bro, thats me! im the black guy!"

you know how i know brother ali is shit? i found this as a top comment on the video for uncle sam goddamn (the worst song ive ever heard)

"actually, a random supporter of his wrote the racist writings (all politicians get some crazies), as for homophobic and thinking raped women have to have the children? that's just blatant lying. he's said multiple times that those 2 issues need to be handled at the state level. no racist would ever want to end the war on drugs. maybe you should do some self education instead of believing whatever the media tells you. I would sympathize a bit more with gomi's argument -- though certainly not his vigor -- if Ali was on record saying "oh, yeah, I'm actually African American, and I would be black if it wasn't for this albino thing." If he's guilty of anything, it's basically letting an untrue rumor spread about his identity that may or may not have benefited him in a way that some would consider unfair. As it is, though, I really don't think he ever directly claimed something one way or another. I'm not sure I'm entirely comfortable picking apart the identity issues of a chubby albino dude who grew up poor and around a lot of people of different races and ethnicities. I don't look at him and think that there's some sort of malicious intent behind how he identifies, especially not these days.

Ali chose the culture that he felt most comfortable in growing up. You can make a pretty nuanced argument about how that has affected his life and his career, but I don't think you can just assume he's necessarily crafted those effects as part of some explicit master plan. He's not some evil rapper swindling the game.

this is wrong though. You can't name yourself Brother Ali, scream black power on stage, constantly complain about being albino, never indicate that you are white, consciously cultivate a (dumb) air of blackness around yourself, in every way imply that you are, in fact, genealogically black, but then, when people start actually believing that you're black

oh, its just some rumor, and my only fault here is not squashing it sooner (by several years)

Quote:
MVRemix: Yeah we asked Slug about that, who’s actually light-skinned black -

Brother Ali: Slug is what almost all of us on Rhymesayers are, which is a mixture of different shit, including black, including white, including Native American. Almost everybody on Rhymesayers is a mixture of some different shit, and a lot of times we’re seen by white people as white rappers.

MVRemix: Puts you in a bit of a stereotype, doesn’t it.

Brother Ali: It’s something we have to work with, but I mean, I’m not white.

When white nerd internet rap fans not only don't care, but are perplexed that someone could possibly find it distasteful, that shit is the fucking worst.

I'm trying to understand the "taking up space" part. White people shouldn't get involved in rap, because then white fans like that person instead of liking black artists? I agree that there's a formula in all of this for some truly horrendous idiocy, I just don't know if the potential for that idiocy should preclude a white person from being able to champion or identify with black causes.

under the guise of being black, we're on a fucking white rappers message board dude

also, this wasn't what I was talking about, but, yes, there is something inherently wrong with a white person acting as the champion of black issues, the same way there's something inherently wrong with a man acting as the champion of feminism.

Right on slooth.

"A revolution doesn’t happen when society adopts new tools, it happens when society adopts new behaviours."
— Clay Shirky

The world is made up of the actions and decisions we all make. Do not wait for consensus to begin acting for the betterment of humanity... but always be ready for group action.
Something as simple as smiling and being kind to others sends a ripple of goodness through society.
Be the change. Revolution begins inside you.
