even in mass effect 3, where females are given powerful roles... they all have perfect bodies(even the non humans), even the AI. yet the male characters in the game can be fat, short, sloppy etc. imagine if there was a romanceable overweight girl in mass effect 3...

i say you arent looking hard enough. plenty of games with dynamic female roles. plenty of games with no gender role at all. plenty of games with hardcore misogyny also.

I hope culture is explored, too. It's a good idea. There's nothing unreasonable, though, about the idea of being "regularly disappointed" by something, even though there are examples of that something that aren't disappointing. I can, with good reason, be regularly disappointed by new movies that come out. That doesn't mean that I'm not "looking hard enough" for good movies. It just means that a lot of movies are shitty. That can be a problem in and of itself. A lot of people see those shitty movies. It's okay to talk about how shitty they are.

if you are regularly disappointed by something, that might be a clue its not for you.

edit:

and im not saying games are only for guys. im saying the type of games she plays might not be the best for her gaming experience. i dont like fps, so guess what? i dont play them often. same goes with your movie analogy, Finn. if a film or genre regularly disappointed you, why would you subject yourself to more of it? from my perspective it sounds like she is bitching there arent enough fem autobots in Transformers. or how come James Bond isnt a woman?

in my Allen Iverson voice. "polygons, we talking bout polygons".

one thing i've learned a lot about within occupy, is white patriarchy... and patriarchy in general... a lot of males insulate themselves from trying to understand things from a feminist/ female perspective... i used to, mainly because i felt a lot of feminists like to weaponize their victimhood and are reactionary... but that doesn't take away from what is at the core of that, women are repressed in our society, and to deny that is part of patriarchy.

just cuz you're black doesn't mean its ok to behave homophobicly or mysognistically.

i dont think anyone denied misogyny was in video games or society as you put it, bigsole.

to keep this discussion in context we are discussing Anita Sarkeesian's reaction to her disappointment of video games. we are discussing how the gaming community is reacting to her knee jerk reactions. by my estimations, $6000 is enough money to buy the xbox 360, nintendo wii and ps3 plus 20 of the top games for each system. im my opinion that is kinda scummy and just plain wrong. the public shouldnt support something that trivial.

now lets break it down to the next level. video games are not legos. they are made by adults for adults. the average gamer in 2012 is 37 fucking years old. yes, kids play games but the ones with all the violence and misogyny should be kept from them if the parents are doing their job.

video games come with a warning/rating label. mature rated games cannot be purchased by anyone under 17. on these labels its says the game contents. lemme give you a quick example...Red Dead Redemption has a mature 17+ label that says (blood, intense violence, nudity, strong language, strong sexual content, use of drugs.) if you bought that game and were disappointed the game contained those themes then you are shit out of luck. the only blame can be placed on yourself.

lastly, let me remind you guys video games are a form of entertainment just like the film or music industry. there will always be music and films with objectionable content. i think its a good thing to have variety, even if that variety is deemed offensive by a minority. video games are protected under the free speech act.
